Easy win for Park
Lancaster Park won the Atlantic and Pacific Travel knock-out cricket competition for the third time in four years yesterday, humbling East-Shirley at Hagley Oval. Park has reached the final in each of the four years the contest has been held, losing just once, last season, to St Albans. This time, it has an easy job against a disappointing East-Shirley. After winning the toss, East-Shirley could muster only 95, with Craig Gibb contributing 29. The next five batsmen produced 13 runs collectively, and only late efforts from Rob van Zanten and Greg Fletcher enabled East-Shirley to get close to three figures. Rod Latham and David Dempsey were parsimonious in the extreme, and also shared seven wickets for Park. Latham’s performance won him the Player of the Match award. East-Shirley 95 (C. Gibb 29, R. van Zanten 17, G. Fletcher 14; R. Latham 4/12, D. Dempsey 3/13, M. Chamberlain 2/19) lost to Lancaster Park 99/1 (A. Collins 44 not out, R. Calder 34, Dempsey 11 not out).
