Lillee here tomorrow

A lack of young fast bowlers is one of New Zealand cricket’s chief concerns. The Board of Control has taken an important move towards plugging this gap with its engagement of the world test wicket re-cord-holder, Dennis Lillee, to conduct coaching clinics this week, in Christchurch and Auckland. The clinics are sponsored by Shell. Twenty-eight youngsters aged from 13 to 16 and from many parts of New Zealand will have the benefit of coaching by the great Australian fast bowler, for a total of 10 hours. Fourteen will attend each clinic. The youngsters have been chosen through their per-

formances at island underage tournaments, and by nomination from their own associations. Perhaps the greatest virtue in the scheme is that Lillee is likely to hold similar clinics for the next four years, and after each one, he will nominate four of the boys to the national director of coaching, John Howell, for inclusion in the clinics the following season. The Christchurch clinics, at Hagley Oval, will be held tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday morning and afternoon, and Thursday morning. The Auckland groups will be coaching morning and afternoon on Friday and Saturday.
