Eastwood Lodge to stand champion
By
JEFF SCOTT
Sam Ballantyne, the proprietor of the Eastwood Lodge Stud at Prebbleton, confirmed on Saturday that this year’s Inter-Dominion champion, Preux Chevalier, will begin his first season at stud there in 18 months. In an enterprising move before the Inter-Dominions were held, negotiations were finalised that on the end of Preux Chevalier’s racing career at the end of next season, he would then stand at stud in Canterbury. Also at the end of next season, it is intended to
retire the New Zealand star, Roydon Glen, a close relative to Preux Chevalier, to a stud career at Roydon Lodge, Templeton. Early speculation that the brilliant Perth-trained pacer might stand at Eastwood Lodge has already brought many inquiries to the stud. However, no definate bookings have been taken. “No, I will open his book in about 18 months time when he gets here," Ballantyne said. ' Preux Chevalier, a six-year-old entire by Lumber Dream, is from Heather Frost, by Thurber Scott
from Heather Mary, by U. Scott. He has won 34 of his 45 starts and has earnings in excess of $600,000 (Australian) to date. “The Frog,” as he is known across the Tasman, set a race record for the Miracle Mile in Sydney this season of Imin 56.75, while he rated that time over 1970 m (mobile) when winning a heat of the InterDominions earlier this month. Preux Chevalier has also rated Imin 58.5 s over 2870 m (mobile) when taking out the Hunter Cup. His longest winning sequence at one time has been 13 on end.
