Ascot Park suspensions
PA Invercargill D. N. Skerrett and J. C. Spencer were both suspended for careless riding at the Birchwood Hunt Club’s meeting at Ascot Park on Saturday. Skerrett, the rider of Upwey in the Wallace Maiden, was found to have allowed his mount to shift in about 150 metres from the finish. Magic Eagle (J. R. Dowling) was checked when Upwey made the move with insufficient clearance. Skerrett was suspended up to and including March 23. Spencer, the rider of Four Nuts in the Wilson Neill Handicap, was found guilty of allowing his mount to check Moody Brook and Fair Surf near the 800 metres. Spencer was sus-
pended up to and including March 23. J. E. Didham, the rider of the winner Friendly Caddon in the Ringway Maiden, was fined $5O each on two counts of careless riding. Harold Goscomb, the rider of Tempus Flight in the Otautau Handicap, was fined $75 for crowding and checking Huff ’n Puff shortly after the start. A. M. Mavor, the trainer of Lissom Lass, was fined $l5 for wrongful nomination of the horse. A. C. Beckett, the trainer of Caparo, was fined $4O for wrongful nomination. Paddle was found to have an irregular heart beat after the Stewarts Wool Co Handicap. The veterinary surgeon recommended that Paddle should be cardiographed before racing again.
