Bank deposits rise
PA Wellington Trading bank total deposits rose 1.5 per cent in February in seasonally adjusted terms after declines in December and January of 4.3 and 1.4 per cent, the Reserve Bank said in its weekly statistics. In the year to February, total deposits grew 16.9 per cent (down from 18.8 per cent in the January year) with demand deposits up 1.2 per cent and time deposits up 23.8 per cent. This was the third consecutive month in which strong lending growth rates have been recorded, lending increasing by 2.1 per cent and 4.9 per cent in December and January.
