FITNESS—- > Experience it Facts and Fables Total Fitness knows that a well-rounded fitness activity should do at least four things: 1) build balanced muscular strength, 2) increase joint flexibility. 3) improve cardiovascular endurance, and I) reduce injuries. Total Fitness knows the benefits that result from these activities; body tone, weight loss, a strengthened heart, better stress management, improved alertness and sleep patterns etc. to name a few. Total Fitness is concerned about the number of exercise myths that are keeping you from realizing your fitness goals. We would like to cover a few. Fable: Many authorities state that running is the best activity for fitness in the least amount of time? Fact: Running, only fulfills one of the four criteria above. It improves cardiovascular endurance while doing nothing for balanced muscular strength and flexibility, and it contributes to a host of injuries. Weight training helps runners maintain upper body strength, and strengthens the knees, ankles, and lower back. Lower body exercise should be done, especially during off season. Fable: Many women think that if they lift weights, they’ll develop large muscles? h Fact: Np! Women do not have the same hormone structure as men (testosterone) and therefore cannot develop the bulk of a man. Lifting weights correctly, achieves the benefits listed above. Fable: When you stop weight lifting, your muscles turn to fat? Fact: No! Muscle cannot turn to fat. Infact, when anyone stops exercising and maintains the same eating habits, they " gain fat ynd lose muscle, creating a flabby appearance. _ ( all in at Total Fitness for vour best tness activity: 30 Manchester St Ph 66-662 . * I ■■—■■■ 111, 1 G _
