Shearers get pay rise
Wellington reporter Shearers have won a 9.1 per cent pay rise in the award round. The settlement was negotiated by the New Zealand Workers’ Union. A spokesman said that last year’s cost-of-living allowance of $8 a week had been built into the hourly rate and the rates per hundred sheep and that the parties had agreed to meet again in May to resolve longer-term arrangements.
