LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN PHARMACOLOGY — P.821602/85 The position of Lecturer/Senlor Lecturer in Pharmacology in the Human Biology Department will fall vacant in November 1985. The Department undertakes the pre-cllnical training of medical and dental students in Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Pharmacology and is responsible for a postgraduate course in basic medical sciences. Departmental and interdepartmental research is encouraged. The successful applicant will have had teaching experience in Pharmacology to medical students. It Is the alm of this Department to present the pre-cllnical medical subjects in a functional and clinically relevant context, and therefore a medical qualification would be an advantage, as would teachlng/research experience in a developing country. 2. LECTURER/SENIORLECTURER,(RESEARCH) ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING PROJECT-P.191002/85 The Education Research Unit has a vacancy for a Lec- : turer/Senior Lecturer which is immediately available. The I appointee will participate in the English Language Learning Project. This is a major study of English Language acquisition in the formal school system. The aim is to study factors that might promote better learning of English. The appointee will be expected to mobilise and work with other people involved in English language research. The appointment is for two (2) years commencing in June 1985. Applicants should possess a higher degree, experience in Papua New Guinea or another developing nation, and should send at least one major research report in the area to demonstrate proven ability to produce applied research results. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ANALYTICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY-P.031006/85 The Chemistry Department Is seeking to fill a vacancy which is immediately available in the field of INORGANIC/ ANALYTICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY. The appointee will be required to take up full teaching responsibilities in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry and contribute to the teaching of Organic and First Year General Chemistry. In addition departmental research activities and consultancies will be expected. The department ts particularly interested in appointing a person with expertise and research experience in the field of Trace Metal Analysis in the Department and/or Water Quality who could contribute to ttta Department’s involvement in the South Pacific Regional Environmental programme. Applicants should have a higher degree, preferably a Ph.D., be able to demonstrate competence as a teacher of undergraduate Chemistry, and show an active Interest in Applied Research. 4. PROFESSOR IN ECONOMICS-P.041001/86 Applicants should have a degree in Economics, a distinguished academic record and an active research interest in some aspects of Economics as it relates to the Third World, Including Economics Theory, Development Economics and applied topics especially with a relevance to development Issues. Some experience in Third World Countries (not necessarily in teaching) would be an advantage. The appointee will be required to provide academic leadership in teaching and research across the range of programmes in Accounting and Economics for which the Department is responsible. SENIOR TUTOR/LECTURER IN COMMERCE-G.681064/85 A vacancy exists in Goroka Teachers College for Senior Tutor/Lecturer and the appointment is for a period of three (3) years with possible renewal. The appointee will be responsible for teaching commerce and accounting in the Diploma of Secondary Teaching Program and will also teach clerical students who enrolled In the technical education program. SENIOR TUTOR/LECTURER IN PRACTICAL SKILLSG.671004/85 The Department of Technical and Home Arts, Goroka Teachers College, has a temporary vacancy commencing In April and continuing until December 1985, with the possibility of renewal for a further year. The successful applicant will be required to teach Wood Practice and Fitting and Machining to students enrolled in the Diploma in Teaching (Secondary). Applicants should be qualified and successful teachers of practical skills at secondary and tertiary level. A first degree is required for appointment as Senior Tutor, a higher degree is required for appointment as Lecturer. Experience in teacher education is highly desirable. 8. DEPUTY BURSAR-P.293024/85 This is a senior position responsible to the Bursar for the effective management of the University's Finance and Estates Division. ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (PAYROLL)-P.323003/85 A vacant post of Assistant Accountant (Payroll) is available in the Accounts Department. Applicants should have several years of accounting experience including supervisory and training of staff. Membership of a recognised accounting body and appropriate tertiary qualifications are required. Experience in the control of payroll, budgeting and preparation of management reports and annual accounts is essential. OTHER CONDITIONS The successful applicant will be offered a contract for a three year appointment. The gratuity entitlement is based on 24 p.c. salary earned and is payable in instalments or lump sum and is taxed at a flat rate of 2 p.c. In addition to the salaries quoted above, the main benefits include: support for approved research; rent-free accommodation; appointment and repatriation airfares for appointee and dependants; financial assistance towards the cost of transporting personal effects to and from PNG; 6 weeks annual recreation leave with home airfares available after each 18 months of continuous service; generous education subsidies for children attending schools in PNG or overseas; a salary continuation scheme to cover extended illness or disability.
