NZ dollar settles

The New Zealand dollar settled to close at $U50.4415/45 after opening at 0.4460/80. Dealers said there were good support levels for the NZ dollar, and over all the market was settling, because there was less volume but more twoway business. However, there was still a lot of corporate business crossing the desks.

Against the Australian dollar the New Zealand dollar was worth 65 Australian cents compared with 60 at the start of the float. Against the pound it was worth 40.59 p. The Australian dollar closed at ?U50.6945/55 after opening this morning at 0.6910/20. The U.S. dollar stabilised to close at 3.3430/60 marks opening this morning at 3.3500/20; it traded in a range of one pfennig, the low being 3.3420 and the high 3.3520. In yen the dollar closed at 260.15/25 after opening at 260.60/70

Sterling also traded in a narrow range, closing at SUSI.OB7O/80 after opening this morning at 1.0862/72.
