Scenes of the Bible
Heinz Seelig, whose litho- i graphs and paintings of Bib- : lical scenes are on show at i the Canterbury Museum, I was bom in Germany. He trained as an architect i as the Bauhaus School and i became involved in interior i design. That led to an in- < terest in painting. 1 Now living in Israel, hav- 1 ing fled Germany in 1933, and devoutly interested in s the Jewish people’s histori- < cal past, he paints almost s exclusively Biblical sub- < jects, including “The Creation,” “The Tower of t Babel,” “Noah’s Ark” and i “The Story of Paradise.” c The Haifa-domiciled ar- i tist has exhibited in several c
countries and in 1977 won -r second prize at an inter- -n national competition in Switzerland. His work is described as naive. The artist has eliminated detail and uses geometric shapes to create an ~u over-all pattern in his work. «.j Heinz Seelig has developed .q his own distinctive style. .-. n The artist has also de- j t signed stained glass windows of a Bible scene, designed paintings for calendars and illustrated books. ■ The exhibition at the Canterbury Museum, which will run in conjunction with a display of ancient-Israel musical instruments, will be ’ r on show for two months. 3
