Sabotage suspected

NZPA-AP Buenos Aires Foreign objects were found in a jet engine of the plane of the Italian President, Mr Sandro Pertini, during a sabotage investigation yesterday, the Argentinian Defence Ministry has confirmed. Three caps from innertube air valves of the Italian airliner’s landinggear were in the engine’s turbine, said a Ministry spokesman. The caps were discovered after the take-off was delayed because of engine trouble. Mr Pertini, aged 88, apparently took seriously the fears of airport officials that there might have been deliberate sabotage. He was heard to say, “And our police, where were they?” He had planned to take off two days early, to attend Konstantin Chernenko’s funeral. Mr Pertini and the Argentinian delegation to the funeral were waiting yesterday to take off in an Argentinian airliner since the Italian craft was disabled.
