Jail escaper may be at Lyttelton

Wikitoria Hauiti, the convicted murderer missing from Christchurch Women’s .Prison since March 2, is believed to be in the Lyttelton area.

Detective Senior-Sergeant Michael Muddiman said yesterday that Hauiti had been seen in Lyttelton, and that she had associates there. Inquiries were being made in the town.

The police and customs officers had been alerted to the possibility that she might try to leave in a ship.

Hauiti, who was sen-

tenced to life imprisonment for murder in 1974, is described by the police as dangerous. She is a Maori, 160 cm tall, of solid build, with green eyes and Afrostyle hair.
