Skating coach stays

An American professional roller skating coach, Randy Gray, is coaching in all disciplines of the sport at the Skate Station rink in Riccarton.

Gray, who won several national titles in the United States before coming to Christchurch and the Rollerland rink towards the end of 1983, was dismissed from his job at Rollerland last April after working for only six of the planned 12

months. But he remained in Christchurch and said yesterday that he was about to apply for permanent residency in New Zealand. At present Gray is coaching freestyle, figure and speed skating and is giving 20 private lessons a week as well as running separate classes in freestyle and figure skating at the Skate Station rink.
