Extra Torvill, Dean shows

Torvill and Dean will now give 11 performances in Christchurch this month, five more than originally planned. The extra performances by the world champion iceskating duo were prompted by the phenomenal demand for tickets for the original six performances, said a director for Michael Edgley International, Mr Wayne Stevens, yesterday. About 40,000 postal bookings had been received. Chair seats ($22.50 a ticket) had been sold for all 11 shows, but bench seats ($16.50) would be on sale at the Christchurch Town Hall from today. About 20,000 tickets were still available. The season was to run from March 21 to March 26, and would now run to March 31, said Mr Stevens. Michael Edgley International is still trying to find a suitable venue for Auckland performances. Unless one is found, only Christchurch performances will be given by the skaters.
