My Cafe put aside

Special correspondent Invercargill My Cafe, one of Invercargill’s best performed gallopers, has been put aside for the season by his trainer, Murray Carter. The talented My Friend Paul four-year-old was produced 10 times this season for three wins, a second, a third and a fourth.

My Cafe won at Wyndham on New Year’s Day and scored again four days later on the second day of the Southland Racing Club’s cup carnival. He was successful again at Ascot Park on Waitangi Day last month. My Cafe, which is closelyrelated to Bellekco (Riverton Cup), has scope to furnish further and develop into a good winner next season.

Murray Carter’s father-in-law, Wilson Ellis, reports that Great Night has done particularly well since finishing a good third in the Dunedin Cup last month. Ellis hopes to race the Imperial Guard gelding at the Southland meeting next week as a prelude to the Riverton Cup on April 6. Great Night’s connections will be hoping the present good spell of weather continues as he does not appreciate the footing too heavy. There was only restricted fast work at Ascot Park yesterday morning when Birchwood candidates furthered their preparations. Most Invercargill horses were tried at the Riverton barrier trials on Sunday. Kerry Siobhan and Peter Pelican, Neil Hogan’s well-

performed duo, bowled along keenly from inside the 1000 m and came in from the 600 m in 40.85. Peter Pelican was galloped on at Cromwell earlier this month, but Hogan is hopeful he will continue to improve.

Browband Beau was not asked for a serious effort in running 600 m in 395, the last 400 m in 265.

Uncle Buck and Ebony Duke bowled along from the 1000 m in Imin 6s, the closing 600 m in 40s. Mike Mavor will ride Uncle Buck on Saturday. Over the same ground, Dan’s Flight and Ebony Night did well to clock Imin 3s, cracking the pace on over the opening 200 m in 12s. It was useful work.
