Murder charge after stabbing
PA Wellington A man will appear in the District Court in Lower Hutt today charged with the murder of his estranged wife yesterday. The man, in his early 40s, was arrested after an incident at the Hutt Valley Energy Board’s Hutt Road depot cafetaria where a man stabbed a woman several times. Other people in the cafetaria restrained the man after the knife attack, about 10.30 a.m.
The woman, in her early 40’s, was taken to Hutt Hospital where she died about 12.30 p.m. Detective Senior-Sergeant Paul Nicolls said police found a knife at the cafetaria. It was the third fatal stabbing incident in the Hutt Valley in the last three days. In separate incidents on Saturday night, two men were stabbed, one in Upper Hutt and one in Lower Hutt. The police have arrested two men and charged them with murder.
