Seadreamer impresses in Grangewilliam Stakes

PA New Plymouth Seadreamer promised to follow in the illustrious path of former winners when she took out the $25,000 Grangewilliam Stakes at New Plymouth yesterday. Her victory in the two-year-old group three race was reminiscent of last year’s winner, Kingdom Bay, and showed the class of the 1983 winner, Burletta. Seadreamer ran on from well back. She drifted back in the early running but came quickly once the field straightened for the run home.

The favourite, Star Board, took the lead at the turn and looked a comfortable winner, but Seadreamer grabbed the lead a stride from the post and won by a long neck. The third-placed Dollar Sterling finished from the middle of the field and was also impressive with his late run. Seadreamer’s trainer, Eric Phillips, of Stratford, will start the filly in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes on March 23 before turning her out for a spell.

Seadreamer has now won two races from three starts for stake earnings of $22,680. She is by March Legend out of Magic Sea.
