AUSTRALIA Weaker all round

PA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed weaker across the boards in moderate trading, after further declines on Wall Street and rising local interest rates. National turnover was below average, as the Melbourne market was closed for the Labour Day holiday. About 24.6 million shares, worth about sAust37.6 million were exchanged: falls outnumbered rises by two to one. Brokers said all sectors of the local market continued the shake-out evident last week. They said industrial stocks were traditionally under pressure this time of year because of the interest rate pressures in the tax run-down period.
