Library facilities
Sir,—l am a frequent user of the Canterbury Public Library. It is an attractive building with helpful staff. There is, however, one thing that is sadly lacking in the design — adequate toilet facilities. There is but one male toilet available to the public in the whole building. It does not help when the public toilets in the Square, which are at best rather sordid, are closed. Surely someone can do something about this, or is Helen Garrett a voice crying uncomfortably in the wilderness? - Yours, etc., T. J. WALKER. March 4, 1985.
[The City Librarian, Mr T. E. D. Stringleman, replies: “The library toilets were designed to service library patrons and it was not anticipated that they would attract wider use. The provision of additional public toilets round the city is at present under consideration by the Christchurch City Council.”]
