Homosexual law reform
Sir,—New Zealand has taken a strong moral stand against nuclear weapons. Why not take an equally strong moral stand against the “nuclear bomb” which is being hatched in our midst? The bill brought into Parliament under the guise of liberalising homosexual behaviour will proliferate the spread of A.1.D.5., against which we have as little defence as we have against a nuclear weapon. Once a nation’s blood.stream becomes infected with this scourge it is clear we face extermination from a source as lethal and as undiscriminating as any atomic fall-out. Say no to the homosexual law reform proposal. Never mind what other countries have done — we can make up our own minds. — Yours, etc., E. S. TUCK. March 9, 1985.
Sir, — God defend New Zealand is a very real prayer at present. The cost of living is sky-rocketing, industrial unrest is rife, inflation is galloping, a large proportion of the population has become State beneficiaries, old friends have been alienated and our national security jeopardised by intransigence for the sake of political expediency. Now there is the possibility of homosexuality being legalised. Labour and moral licence seem to go hand in hand. God defend New Zealand. — Yours, etc., L. ANDERSON. March 7, 1985.
Sir,—Congratulations to Mr Braybrooke, member of Parliament for Napier, for speaking out strongly against homosexual law reform. In this day and age it seems that however immoral something is, making it legal apparently puts everything right. New Zealand seems to be following the example of Sodom and Gommorrah well and truly. Why are the churches so silent on the subject? — Yours, etc., R. FREESTONE. Dunedin March 8, 1985.
Sir,—l told you so. The gay propagandists want a lot more than legal status for consenting adult homosexuals in private. Ms Fran Wilde and her “human rights” supporters must now realise the ramifications of interfering with just one little “harmless” part of the law. They were misled because most are ignorant of the fact that homosexuality really concerns sodomy withryoung boys, a taboo subject for the media, and only discussed be-
tween qualified adults in private, and by others with prurient sniggering. Homosexuality is an obsessivecompulsive mental disease, which, like alcoholism, brings misery to all associated with it, and again, like alcoholism and drug addiction, shows minimal prognosis of complete cure. It is no human right to indulge anti-social behaviour in the mentally ill, and a great danger of homosexual promiscuity spreading A.I.D.S. by “bringing it into the open” to increase its fatal availability to the community.—Yours, etc.,
VARIAN J. WILSON. March 9, 1985.
Sir,—With the horrifying implications of the proposal for homosexual law reform, where are the voices of church leaders? They all came to platforms with statements on the All Black rugby tour, which is actually no concern of theirs, but on this issue which is in total disregard of God’s law they are silent. There must be a score of different sects or denominations in Christchurch which could unite to oppose this flagrant abuse of God’s standard for mankind. One wonders where their loyalty lies. — Yours, etc.,
JEAN CAMPBELL. March 10, 1985.
Sir,—No human beings, however righteous, should ever condemn and urge ostracism on those they regard as sinners. We all have faults and failings, so should offer help and sympathy to those with human frailties. However, it is well to recognise that our Creator expressly warned against homosexuality. Death was the penalty among Hebrews and Israelites. No human legislation can ever condone it or accept it as an alternative lifestyle. We know what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah and to Pompeii. The fall of great empires like Babylon and Greece and the decline of once great nations like Britain, the United States and some Western powers can be attributed in no small measure to widespread homosexuality, a manifestation of sick societies. — Yours, etc., TED MULCOCK. March 10, 1985.
