World politics

Sir,—What command of English Alun Chalfont demonstrates (“Daily Telegraph” reprint, “The Press,” March 6). I now realise that dealing in facts has entirely confused my perceptions of world politics. Without Chalfont’s sublime representations I would not have known that the “free, trusting evenhanded” West was about to fall prey to “diligent termites” who are “treacherous” or “devious” or “misguided” (and racially inferior?). I would not have realised that 11 former high-ranking N.A.T.O. officers would be controlled by four World Peace Council people they associate with. Such associations are obviously of real concern. Is my own atheism being subverted by the church people I work with in the peace movement? Since the Soviets contribute to the United Nations, should not we quickly withdraw? And if President Reagan agrees with communists that peace is a priority, can he really be trusted?—Yours, etc., WARREN THOMSON,

Spokesperson, Peace Issues, N.Z. Values Party. March 6. 1985.
