Tie-tips for Chinese
NZPA-AFP Hong Kong The Chinese are being given lessons in how to don that most unproletarian male fashion accessory, the tie. “Ming Pao” daily newspaper in Hong Kong has reprinted a column from a Chinese newspaper which contained, step-by-step instructions on tying a tie. The daily noted that ties
went with the Western suits now high fashion among China’s men. Younger members of the Peking leadership have been trendsetters: Premier Zhao Ziyang donned a smart suit for the October 1 national day in Peking, complete with a neatly tied tie. The paramount leader, Deng Xiaoping, clings to the more traditional drab “Mao suit.”
