Water polo trialists
Four Canterbury youths, Matthew Lanyon, Rory Hamilton, David Moore and Andrew Lewis, will be trying for places in the New Zealand junior water polo team at trials at Queen
Elizabeth II Park this weekend.
The trials, between North and South Island squads, will be on Saturday and Sunday and the New Zealand junior (under 18) team will be named after-
wards. The team will play a knock-out series against Australia to decide which country will be represented in the Junior World Cup finals next year. The New Zealand Water Polo board
is negotiating to play the elimination series at the same time as the Australian Games in Melbourne in late January. The squads for the trails this week-end are:—
North Island.— C. Blyth, J. Lloyd, P. Martin, P. O’Hallo-
ran (Auckland); J. Kendall, S. Watene (Waikato); S. Venables (Tarankai); D. Follows (Wanganui); M. Allinghain, S. Cunningham, J. Ogilvie, B. Ward (Wellington).
South Island.— M. Lanyon, R. Hamilton, D. Moore, A. Lewis (Canterbury); S. O’Brien, P. Savory, W. Lautitt, M. Smith, M. Whyte, R. Curtis (Otago); G. Martin, T. Utteridge, D. Hannon, G. Riach (Southland).
