Offer helps turnover

Turnover rose sharply on a firm New Zealand Stock Exchange yesterday, in response to the bid for 20 per cent of the capital in Landmark Properties. The total volume was 5.3 million shares, and this included 1.3 M Landmark ordinary units. A total of 700,000 Landmark shares sold at the official bid price of 50c, and the issue closed at 53c, after trading as high as 55c, for a gain on the day of 13c. The high turnover was helped by a special sale of IM Apparel Holding shares (formerly Manawatu Knitting Mills) at 175 c, 5c below the ordinary market price. Brierley was also busy ahead of its annual result, which is predicted to be made today. More than 100,000 shares were traded between 455 c to 460 c, but the issue closed down 6c at 456 c. Cerebos Gregg’s was active for the first time since listing on Tuesday, and 216,100 shares sold at a steady 105 c. Motor Holdings improved 2c to 147 c, after going ex bonus on Wednesday on a turnover of 233,500. The company also announced on Monday that it was increasing its holding in Mazda Motors (NZ). The Barclays industrial index firmed 1.15 points to 1298.39.
