Women’s interest

St Albans has always been prominent in the promotion of women’s cricket, and last season’s senior side, which won the Canterbury Women’s Cricket Association Senior Competition' would arguably be claimed to be the strongest club combination in New Zealand.

With five sides playing, it makes the club the colargest in New Zealand. “However, we are still on the lookout for new members,” said Marina Nijland, the women’s club captain. “Gear will be provided for all people wishing to play.” Cricket is undergoing a tremendous boost in popularity at present, and already many new girls have shown an interest in taking up the sport this season. Each women’s side practices on a specific night under the watchful eye of the women’s club coach, Mrs Denise McGregor, the former New Zealand and Canterbury opening batswoman.

She has been appointed by the club to coach individuals as well as teams and selected groups.
