D.D.T. ban

From DIANA DEKKER in London The’ British Government has hardened a “gentleman’s agreement” discouraging the manufacture of products using D.D.T. into an outright ban. An announcement this week said existing stocks could still be sold but pesticide legislation would be introduced and a draft bill would probably be brought in during the first session of the new Parliament.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture said that D.D.T. was no longer acceptable because “scientific knowledge had advanced and other safer alternatives were now available.”
