Obituary Mr B. E. A. Williams
A former president of the Life Underwriters’ Association and the New Zealand Jaycees, Mr Bernard Edwin Arthur Williams, has died. He was 73. Mr Williams was born and educated in Taihape, and spent many years in Wanganui before moving to Christchurch in 1953.
In Wanganui he was a founding member of the Wanganui Jaycees, and was president in 1945 and 1946.
Two years later he was elected national president for a year, and was a Jaycee senator in 1953.
He worked in the Post Office from 1925, and was promoted to district organiser of the Wanganui postal district in 1935. In 1951 he left the Post Office to start work in life assurance.
After moving to Christchurch in 1953, Mr Williams
again immersed himself in community work and became a board member and life member of the Y.M.C.A. in Christchurch. He was a charter member of the Christchurch Lions Club and president in 1966 and 1967. He served St Barnabas’ parish, Fendalton, for 30 years and, at the time of his death, was a sidesman. Mr Williams is survived by his wife.
