Freezing works wages
Sir,—Mr G. Steven is obviously another member of the public who has been misinformed of the facts on freezing workers’ wages. In the last award dated 1981 there was no allowance made for getting anything extra to compensate for the off-season as Mr Steven suggests. It is a myth that freezing workers are highly paid. I am a freezing worker who receives between $13,000 and $14,000 for six months worked; and based over 12 months I would hardly say this was a huge amount. — Yours, etc., KEITH HAWKINS. ’ October 2, 1984.
