Golliwogs and the theatre
Sir,—Philip Temple (September 3) misses the point that black people are continuously undergoing systematic oppression, both institutionally and at a personal level. It can be shown that in the fields of employment, education, housing, immigration, etc., black people have been discriminated against because of their colour. If Philip Temple is interested in animal rights, I suggest he try to stop the cruel and arduous beating of horses. For Elizabeth Moody (September 4), I can only say that the artistic must go hand in hand with equality of treatment. This makes the word censorship out of place. The student collective, in an attempt to fight racism should not be interpreted as a threat to the white.
