Firm finds new premises
PA Hamilton The fire-hit caravan manufacturer, C. I. Munro, has opened a temporary plant in Hamilton to resume production of motorcaravans for the busy summer market. Its managing director, Mr Gordon Munro, said yesterday that the decision to move from Otorohanga was made after a meeting with the managements of campervan hire firms who lost 24 vehicles in the $2 million blaze two weeks ago. Otorohanga did not have vacant premises big enough to continue production while a new factory was built on the fire site, he said. Production would start
next week and continue until Christmas when he hoped the new Otorohanga factory would open. Staff were rigging the temporary factory this week.
“It was the only big building we could get hold of immediately,” Mr Munro said.
“We had to get back into production quickly.” The company had to replace vehicles lost and catch up on existing and new orders. New orders of about 20 caravans were “very encouraging,” he said. The. Otorohanga site has been cleared and a building firm is ready to move on to the site.
