Pouring resumes at Clyde dam

PA. Dunedin The Clyde dam contractor, Zublin Williamson, was given approval yesterday by the Ministry of Works to pour more concrete for the dam.

The Ministry had earlier stopped the contractor from pouring concrete after unsatisfactory results from the first big pour of 1100 cubic metres.

The Ministry yesterday gave its approval after -Zublin Williamson made trials using revised concrete handling methods.

The Ministry’s information officer in Cromwell, Mr Bruce Thompson, said the trials had resulted in an

improvement in concrete quality. “As a result, the Ministry had authorised the joint venture to place some further concrete,” said Mr Thompson, saying that an early start was expected. . ■ . >■

On Wednesday the Workers’ Union at the site temporarily lifted its ban on the use of Ministry equipment by the contractor.

The union said the relaxation of the ban would become permanent if the Minister of Works, Mr Colman, succeeded in getting an agreement between the contractor and the union on future use of equipment.
