Inspired will oppose elders

NZPA Sydney A Golden Slipper winner, Inspired, earned a second race against older company when he pleased his trainer, Theo Green, in a special track trial at Randwick yesterday morning. Green said Inspired, a failure at his last run, would run in the $40,000 Theo Marks Quality (1400 m at Rosehill tomorrow.

Inspired worked attractively on the Randwick grass and Green gave him the all clear for tomorrow’s race.

Inspired ran the worst race of his career when a struggling 10th to Red Anchor in the Roman Consul Stakes (1200 m at Rand wick last Saturday. Green and Beadman were at a loss to explain the champion colt’s poor performance.

Green said Inspired would be taken to Melbourne for the $lOl,OOO Pure Pak . Stakes (1200 m at Flemington on November 3 should he run up to expectations. “If he doesn’t then he will be spelled immediately,” said Green.

The race has brought together a strong field of seasoned sprinters headed by Getting Closer. The Smith-trained Popular Hero has moved sharply into calculations for the second leg of the three-year-old Spring treble, the $75,000 Gloaming Stakes (1900 m tomorrow. Popular Hero was ridden by Ron Quinton when a fast finishing seventh to a stablemate, Black Ivory, in the Peter Pan, the first leg.
