Rangitikei outcome next week
PA Wellington The Social Credit leader, Mr Beetham, may have to wait until next week before he knows the final outcome of the General Election result in Rangitikei. Earlv final results confirmed election-night results. An electoral office spokesman in Rangitikei was reported as saying that special votes in the electorate were still being counted and a result might not be available until next week. National’s Mr Dennis Marshall won the seat from Mr Beetham with a majority of 230 votes, later increased to 330. The eventual outcome in Rangitikei hinges on some 1820 special votes. Mr Neil Morrison, who won Pakuranga for Social Credit, had his electionnight majority of 419 trimmed to 172, it was confirmed yesterday. Special votes more than halved his margin over Mr Pat Hunt, the former National member of Parliament. Mr Hunt said last evening that he would not seek a recount. “A miss is as good as a mile,” he said.
