Cumberland in form

PA Levin The visiting northern jockey, David Peake, scored his third win for the day when Cumberland won the Printers Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double, at the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s meeting yesterday. Cumberland was the beaten favourite at his last start at Hawera but he was a much better horse yesterday with only 50.5 kg, which was 6.5 less than he carried at Hawera. A first acceptor for the AIC International Harvester Winter Cup at Riccarton next month, Cumberland was given a good run by Peake yesterday. After taking the lead on the home turn he held off a likely bid from Fragment to win by a long neck. Peake’s earlier winners were on the long shot, Khani, and Mellay Strait.
