A camel brought the bride

NZPA-AP Sacramento California Traffic halted, pedestrians stared and children whooped as Terri Tobin travelled to her wedding on the back of a camel. Ms Tobin, of Los Angeles, said she chose the unusual mode of transport to honour the South Asian tradition of her future husband, Bakshish Singh Gill. She said his nickname for her, Bota, means camel in Punjabi. As traffic backed up behind her, she clung to a saddle horn and attempted to sway with the animal’s rolling stride. She rode the camel from a nearby parking lot to the tree-shaded yard of her parents’ home, where the wedding was held. “I’m a nervous wreck” she said, as she slid off the hump of the kneeling dromedary. The camel, named Tanya, was obtained from the American Camel Association, a Sacramento-based non-profit group that breeds the animals. The organisation tends 27 camels, many of them from film studio suppliers.
