McBride axed
NZPA-Reuter Dublin The former Lions captain, Willie John Mcßride has been axed as the coach of the Ireland rugby team after just one season in charge. Mcßride, who took over from Tom Keiman at the start of last season, has been replaced by another forner Irish international, Mick Doyle, though he will remain on the selection committee. Ireland lost all four matches in last season’s Five Nations championship and it will be looking to Doyle, capped 20 times between 1965-68 and a member of the Lions side which toured South Africa in 1968, to lift its fortunes. The Irish Rugby Union has also announced the cancellation of its proposed tour of Argentina next May. An I.R.F.U. source said the fact that several players would have been travelling on British passports could have caused problems in the aftermath of the Falklands war.
