Brief session of House likely

PATRICIA HERBERT

By

in Wellington The next session of Parliament may be about as brief as the last one. The House had been sitting less than a fortnight when the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, sought an early dissolution and a snap election. The incoming Labour Government has yet to announce the timetable for the rest of this year but reports are that the House will sit early in August for a brief Eeriod to attend to pressing usiness. It will then rise until the end of September so that new Cabinet Ministers can learn their portfolios and the promised economic summit meeting can be arranged.

From when it resumes, Parliament is expected to sit to about Christmas.
