Four accused face 64 witnesses

PA Auckland The Crown will call 64 witnesses in its case against four men facing charges relating to activities of Clutch Services, Ltd, of Avondale. The firm featured in the consumer complaints television programme, “Fair Go.” The four men — Daniel Michael McCarthy, aged 35, a manager, of Avondale; Joseph Owen Mouten, aged 22, a manager, of New Lynn; Ross John Fraider, aged 35, a manager, of Glen Eden; and Mark Anthony Black, aged 22, a foreman

mechanic, of Blockhouse Bay — have pleaded not guilty in the High Court at Auckland to 34 charges. Charges in the indictment include threatening to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, and using false pretence. Mr Gary Gotlieb appears for Black, Mr Graeme Jenkins for Mouten, Mr Isaac Koya for Fraider, and Mr C. B. Cato for McCarthy. Mr Peter Kaye appears for the Crown. The trial, before Mr Justice Prichard, opened .on Monday and will contiiiae > all week.
