C.B.H.S. favoured

Christchurch Boys’ High School is the hottest of favourites to regain “The Press” A grade chess title off Shirley Boys’ High School in this year’s competition. The preliminary rounds of the A grade were completed when the two dominant schools over the last 13 years of the competition met in the final round. Christchurch was successful on all six boards. The other two teams in the A grade play-off, Christ’s College and Burnside, also met last week, the result favouring Burnside, 42.

Those four schools will now start afresh in a roundrobin. The draw for next week is: C.B.H.S. v. Christ’s College at College; Burnside

v. S.B.H.S. at Burnside. By winning two adjudicated games, Heaton drew with the unbeaten Cobham A to keep interest in which two schools will qualify for the C grade grand final.
