Williams returns to rep. squad
Mike Williams (Papanui), a former South Island wing, returns to the Canterbury rugby league squad for the match against West Coast at the Show Grounds on August 4. A broken ankle suffered late last season threatened to end Williams’s career, at least at representative level, but he is showing no lingering effects and has been playing strongly for Papanui in his club role of full-back.
The return of Williams to the 16-man squad compensates for the leg injury which will keep Pomare Connell (Addington) out of the encounter with West Coast. Robin Alfeld, Marty Crequer, Mike Williams, Tony Wildermoth, Mike Kerrigan, David Field, Mark Forsey, Phil Bancroft, Paul Truscott, Wayne Wallace, Ross Taylor, Scott Barrow, Russell Tuuta, Barry Edkins, Adrian Shelford, Mike Smith.
