Supply of video recorders

Sir,—At 9 a.m. on Monday, July 16,1 went to a television shop and ordered a Sanyo video recorder. While I listened, the salesman telephoned the New Zealand agents in Auckland and ordered my set to be sent at once by airfreight. The order was read back and confirmed. On Thursday, July 19, I asked my dealer if the set had arrived. He replied that the agents had frozen all supplying or movement of goods because of the devaluation. I pointed out that my transaction had been confirmed over two days before devaluation and that a three-month price freeze had been announced by the Government. It does appear that some people are aiming to make markups on goods already in the warehouses which are not affected by the devaluation, and they should be exposed.—Yours, etc., A. R. BATEY, Greymouth. July 20, 1984.
