Credit obtained by fraud

PA Auckland An unemployed orderly claimed to be a doctor, a racing club secretary, and a policeman when he booked into hotels and motels, the District Court at Auckland heard. Charles William Cramond, aged 37, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to seven charges of obtaining credit by fraud between January 6 and June 16 and one charge of behaving in a threatening manner. Counsel, Mr Roger Chambers, said Cramond had a long history of offending, a longstanding alcohol problem, and certain personality disorders.

In the long run no-one was hurt by Cramond’s offending, “except of course the hotel and motel proprietors,” Mr Chambers said. Judge Imrie told , Cramond that probation’ and psychiatric reports “show that you are a liar and a cheat and that you drink too much.” He said Cramond had appeared before the courts 25 times in the last 20 years and had 40 convictions. The Judge sentenced Cramond to 12 months jail for obtaining credit by fraud and convicted and discharged him for behaving in a threatening manner. '
