Mr G. Kelly to contest election

Mr George Kelly, of Methven, who was defeated in en election for South Island vice-president of the Trotting Conference, will contest the South Island vacancy on the executive, nominations for which close at the end of the week.

Mr Jack Phillips, ■ of Timaru, won the election for the vice-presidency position by two votes from Mr Kelly, with Mr Bruce Woods, of Christchurch, another two votes back. The vacancy on the executive results from the win of Mr Phillips. Mr Eugene McDermott, of Christchurch, who polled the highest number of votes among the unsuccessful candidates for two South Island seats on the executive, and

Mr Ron May, of Methven, are expected to be among the rivals of Mr Kelly. Mr George Shand, of Timaru, who also contested the South Island executive seats, will not stand this time. The other unsuccessful candidate was Mr Steve Edge, of Motukarara.
