Bracken Ridge has appealing form

Special correspondent New Plymouth The Awapuni three-year-old, Bracken Ridge, is well placed at the weights to win the Opunake Club Hotel Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Opunake Racing Club’s meeting at Hawera today. The Taipan II Colt has only 50kg in the class 2 event and should be prominent throughout. Two starts back he was a most impressive winner at Awapuni and followed that effort up with a close third at Rotorua last time out. He will handle the heavy footing which is likely to prevail at today’s meeting. The three-year-old filly, Otoia Belle, is trained on the track and won there last month. She will be a major threat. The Woodville mare Ballihu, looks a big danger. She was a good third at Wanganui earlier this month and she is coming right into her best form. Golden Brigade, High Profile, Zelazny and Allyn are other prospects. In the second leg, the Opunake Tavern Handicap, Ohwell should score a welldeserved win on his home track. The five-year-old was third at Wanganui at his last start and has been placed at five of his last six outings.
