Junior All Blacks win
PA Timaru The junior All Blacks overwhelmed South Canterbury, 55-9, in the second match of an internal tour at Timaru yesterday. The Juniors ran in eight tries, the remaining 23 points coming from the boot of Auckland five-eighths, Grant Fox. Fox took 11 shots at goal. He missed only one, a conversion which shaved the right hand upright. The Juniors, who' led 28-3 at half-time, proved too big and too polished for the home side, but in the first half, defensive errors cost them two tries.
Tony Thorpe stood out in the line-outs with some clean two-handed takes but in the first half he was well marked by his opposite, Duncan Bell. Dale Atkins pulled in good ball at the back of the line-out but much of his worth was in providing a stable platform for other players to run off. Scorers: Junior All Blacks 55 (J. Hainsworth (2), M. Vincent (2), M. Love, D. Atkins (2), A. Campbell tries; G. Fox 3 penalty goods, 7 conversions). South Canterbury 9 (P. Gloag try, B. Fairbrother penalty goal and conversion).
