The big decision: time for a facelift

Daisy de Bellefeuille is an attractive and outspoken woman who has chalked up three marriages, two children and a successful career. Daisy’s zest for life, love and men remains undiminished. But she is terrified of growing old, and so she decides she needs a facelift. “Daisy — The Story of a Facelift” a National Film Board of Canada documentary directed and narrated by Michael Rubbo, deals with Daisy’s life from the moment she makes her decision.

It will be screened on One at 10 p.m. tomorrow.

The camera follows Daisy de Bellefeuille through all the stages from the preliminary visit with the surgeon to the operation. There are heart-to-heart discussions

with friends and moments of introspection. Interspersed with Daisy’s story is an examination of other aspects of cosmetic surgery and the value system that has created this industry. Few people are entirely happy with their looks. For some, the signs of ageing become an obsession. After face creams fail to do enough, they decide on cosmetic surgery. At a Long Island plastic surgery clinic, surprisingly young patients willingly display and discuss their new eyelids, noses and breasts.

Psychologists and personnel consultants explain that while people may claim to believe that physical attractiveness is unimportant, it. remains a basic criterion’ for choosing a lover or hiring an employee.
