Nelson music camp

The Nelson School of Music will hold its third camp from May 13 to 18 at The Lodge, Lake Rotoiti. Making music in chamber and orchestral groups, which proved very popular in the two earlier camps in 1982 and 1983, will again be the keynote. Mary Grodd, the director of the Nelson School of Music, will supervise the camp. Professional tutors for a variety of instruments will be present, including David Nalden (Auckland, strings), Milton Parker (Wellington, guitar), Uwe Grodd (Nelson,

flute), Mary Grodd (flute, recorder). Two sections included this year for the first time are a singing workshop to be taken by Pamela Sims (Dunedin) and a piano workshop to be taken by Virginia Ward-Smythe (Nelson). Private lessons are also offered. Both beginners and experienced musicians are catered for, and family groups are welcome, with financial concessions for children and non-playing members. The programme is — mornings: workshops, orchestral rehearsals, and

chamber music; afternoons: free for practice, informal groups, private lessons, and every evening a concert. Further information is available from the Nelson School of Music, P.O. Box 822, phone 89-477, Nelson.
