Weightlifters chosen
PA Wellington Two New Zealand weightlifters, Allister Nalder, of Nelson, and Mike Bernard, of Auckland, have been provisionally nominated for the Olympic Games. The pair, both of whom are in the 82.5 kg class, have yet to achieve the New Zealand association’s qualifying tally of 325 kg, but in nominating the pair the selector, Garry Marshall, of
Wellington, said he was confident they would reach their target at the Oceania championships in Tahiti from May 9 to 11. The New Zealand team for Tahiti is:— 56kg: Clayton Chelley (Wellington). 60kg: Phillip Chappell (Nelson). 67.5 kg: Kevin Judson (Waikato). 82.5 kg: Nalder and Bernard. 100 kg: Kevin Blake (Auckland). Manager-coach, Bruce Cameron (Auckland).
