Simpson settles for Lyttelton

The Canterbury centre, Victor Simpson, will be playing his club rugby for the Lyttelton club this season — and that’s official. For weeks there has been speculation about what club Simpson would join after he obtained a clearance from University back in February. The Lyttelton clubcaptain, Brent Souter, said yesterday that Simpson had joined the club, and had been attending practices. Mr Souter said that if Simpson had been slow in making up his mind, it

might have been because he had not been able to attend club practices until after he returned last week from Singapore and Hong Kong with the Canterbury team. He had no knowledge of Simpson having obtained a job in Lyttelton. Simpson will don the navy blue and gold colours of Lyttelton for the first time when it makes its C.S.B. Cup debut against MerivalePapanui at Denton Park on Saturday. The side will also include Lyttelton’s two other notable gains, the former All Black forwards, Bill Bush and Hud Rickit.
