Botham faces ban

NZPA-AAP London The England all-rounder, lan Botham, faces a one (or even two) test suspension when he appears before the Test and County Cricket Board (T.C.C.8.) disciplinary committee on Friday, the “Daily Mail” says. Botham faces charges of making derogatory statements in a radio interview he gave, criticising the food and living conditions during England’s tour of Pakistan. He gave the interview soon after returning from Pakistan for a knee opera-

tion. Botham was fined just short of the maximum £3OO last year by the team’s manager, Doug Insole, for remarks he made about the umpires during England’s tour of Australia. The T.C.C.B. will view Botham’s remarks seriously, the “Daily Mail” says. Although he apologised, Botham’s remarks drew a strong protest in Pakistan, forcing the tour manager, Alan Smith, to issue a statement “deploring” the comments.
